Denver

Whoa, a PERSONAL post! I promise to be blogging more – what better way to kick off more personal posts than telling you about my fun trip! Last month I went to Denver CO to visit a close friend and go on adventures together. I remember booking the trip months before and eagerly marking weeks & then days off the calendar. As soon as Tiffany announced her internship in Denver last spring, we started discussing travel plans to see each other. January seemed like the PERFECT time (no weddings last month), but little did I know we would be closing on our house so fast and my wonderful/strong/awesome husband (and the nicest guys ever!) would be moving all the furniture/boxes while I was away. I’ll save the rest of THAT story for another post. If you’ve never been to Denver, seriously GO! Tiffany is probably the BEST person to visit as she hates to sit still! She had so many amazing things planned for the week that it sadly rushed by. That just means another trip must be made in the near future for more adventures! I was too scared to bring my “big” camera to some of our activities (ice skating on a frozen lake and horse back riding in the mountains!) Thank goodness for the handy-dandy iphone! So below is a little glimpse at Denver/Boulder from our week of adventures and fun photoshoots of each other. I won’t lie, I left some of my heart there. As we stepped out of the car at the airport we both were in tears; so instead of goodbyes I always say “see you soon”. I love you more than you know Tiffany — thank you for being the best host and friend anyone could ask for. xoxo.

10 Fun (Random) Facts About Denver & Boulder

1. I didn’t know what a REAL hipster was until I visited Denver/Boulder. For real.

2. Everyone looks like they are ready to be photographed. ALL THE TIME. So much fashion goodness. Didn’t know you could make flannel and snow boots look SO GOOD.

3. Dogs are allowed in bars/coffee shops. Not just small purse dogs, ALL sizes. Not only does everyone recycle and love the earth but also our furry four legged friends! Ya’ll know how much I love animals. This made me squeal.

4. They have the coolest coffee shops EVER. Like, four on every street. Paradise to us latte lovers. Pure paradise.
I think I could have done photoshoots INSIDE all of them to. They look straight out of an anthro catalog.

5. The mountains are epic. You can see them from everywhere. You could LITERALLY see in all directions (360 view) for miles. It kinda freaked me out and awe inspired me at the same time.

6. They have vending machines just for protein/running snacks (proof below)

7. The sun is blinding. Literally. Don’t forget your sunglasses, it hurts.

8. The food? How does everyone stay skinny? (SERIOUSLY)

9. I love how active everyone is – Tiffany has countless groupons for amazing outdoor activities (even sleigh rides!)

10. Black athletic pants are worn as leggings with boots (by seriously everyone) – guys just wear skinny jeans. Style AND comfort !

Daniel & Kathleen ~ Duke Mansion Wedding

The day was classy, elegant, and beautifully southern. Emotions were high with anticipation and excitement for Kathleen & Daniel to wed as husband and wife. I loved all the personal elements the couple incorporated into their day – hand crafted ballet slippers, military traditions, and a bible now carried down the aisle by three generations. Even though they’ve already had to endure so much distance & time apart (grad school and military), there is nothing that will stop these two from the beautiful and effortless love they share. We literally had five minutes (or less!) for portraits – and although this is never ideal, they melted into one another and stopped time. It was in those moments where I truly understood how wrapping your arms around the one you love is home. The way they naturally are with each other is picture perfect – and that’s exactly what I captured. Them being them. And that’s how it should be. Special thank you to Kate for helping me capture this wedding (especially a few weeks after having your precious baby!) The Duke Mansion was a beautiful & elegant setting for the reception. Oh and isn’t Kathleen stunning? If you never got a chance to see her bridal portrait session, make sure you do (gorgeous!) Thank you both for having me capture your lovely day – it is such an honor to be witness to the type of love you both share. Cheers to new adventures together and a life of nothing but bliss and endless happiness. Love u both. Enjoy a sneak into the story of their day. xox!

Anna Katherine & Denny ~ Winthrop University Wedding

It seems like just yesterday that Anna Katherine (and her MOH Kalei!) sat down with me for the first time to chat about all things wedding plans and photography. I hadn’t been living in North Carolina for very long, so it was fun being introduced to all the fun southern traditions that Anna Katherine and Denny incorporated into their wedding. I learned all about how important football games are in the south, the bond and sisterhood of sorority sisters, monograms on all types of gifts, shag dancing/music, and one of my most favorite – the southern cooking! Both of them were simply beaming during the engagement session – so ready and excited for the big day to get here! Even though the wedding was in the middle of December, it turned out to be a beautiful day and McBryde Hall (Winthrop University) was a breathtaking place to have a reception! The ceremony was filled with personal elements that brought the entire room together in community and celebration of the union of Anna Katherine & Denny in a special way. I especially loved the way the couple really honored and appreciated those present both in person & spirit. Oh and can I talk about the live music at the reception? I’ve been to a few weddings now that have live music – but this band got EVERYONE (and I mean EVERYONE) up and dancing. From the moment the band started, no one was sitting. The ENERGY in the room was crazy and it was such a joy to photograph. One of their goals was to make sure everyone was having a great time, and I think they accomplished that BIG time. A huge huge thank you to Sunny for joining me in photographing their special day (and explaining what shag dancing was lol!) Enjoy the look into Anna Katherine & Denny’s big day! Heart u both! xox
