Date Night Thursday

I am so excited to share today’s date night highlight! Unlike the other two previous postings, we have our first DATING couple (which I love!) These two love bugs have fallen head-over-heels for one another and sent me about a billion (adorable) pics from their fun “date trip” to Charleston, South Carolina (they live in Virginia). They took pics in journal form, documenting all the highlights of them and their adventures this past Easter weekend. You MUST watch through the slideshow of images below (seriously, how CUTE are THEY). Umm and Charleston? Obsessed. Actually, I was there a few weeks ago (check it out here) and I fell in love with that awesome city all over again. I even texted Eric saying “i die. can we move here, pweeze?” It’s a good thing we love Charlotte and living so close to my sisters bc I would move there is a second. At least I live close enough to visit and photograph there ALL the time! Thank you Wynter and Josiah (coolest names EVER), for sending this to me! Sometimes it’s nice to get away and explore a new city hand-in-hand with a loved one! Oh how I love adventures! Enjoy the story and pictures from Wynter & Josiah’s adventures in Charleston where they canoed, explored, and ate at lots of fabulous places!

“Josiah and I have been dating for only six months, but it feels like a lifetime! We met each other this past year on the first day of freshman orientation at Regent University. He sat across from me at the lunch table and his uncanny wit surprised and intrigued me! We have hung out non-stop since we met, and he quickly has become my best friend and the love of my life. We are both pursuing English (creative writing) degrees at Regent, and we enjoy encouraging each other in our different preferred areas of writing (I write music and Josiah writes fictional short stories and novels). We laugh more than we breathe, but we have a super deep relationship where we can share our spiritual journeys and encourage each other with current hardships. He’s just the best!
Josiah surprised me with a trip to Charleston, SC, where one of his friends recently moved, and he planned a day FULL of wonderful, interesting dates! Because we both work and go to school, it’s really hard to plan time for dates (let alone pay for them!) so this was like one mega-date to make up for all of our penny pinching. While in Charleston, we ate breakfast at Caviar and Bananas, which is an AMAZING gourmet restaurant that isn’t too harsh on your bank account. I was blown away with the fancy meal and the beautiful atmosphere.  All the food is made to order, and the coffee was great! Next, we went to the Aquarium of South Carolina, and we had a blast looking at all the fish and sharks, and being scared by a ginormous albino alligator! We then went over the bridge to have lunch at the Charleston Crab House and sat outside overlooking the water – it was amazing! The crab legs were so so yummy and our waitress was very down to earth, and willing to recommend some shops for the next part of our journey. After lunch we shopped around and caught some amazing local music on East Bay St. For dinner we chose the five star french restaurant, Rue de Jean, and it was just as fantastic as breakfast and lunch (although it was preeeeetty pricey!) Altogether, it was a date for the history books! Also, we spent the day after our Charleston date with my family in Gaston. They own a  summer camp that is my all time fave, so we spent Easter with them and had some fun time canoeing before we hit the road!”

Jessica + Luca ~ Portraits

There are a thousand thoughts racing through my head as I sit here trying to figure out where to start on this blog post. Scratch that, a million thoughts. I’ve actually started and stopped writing this paragraph several times. This is an extremely special and personal post and I think if I let myself, it could be a few pages long (but I’ll try to keep it to the point) Below you will find images of Jessica (my older sister) and my brother-in-law Luca. We’ve been talking about doing a couples portrait shoot since I think the first time I picked up a camera. Jessica has been one of my biggest fans and has rejoiced with me during all the exciting life moments and lifted me up during difficult times. She has been by my side through this entire journey and I’m so glad we are finally in the same city. Especially since recent events, I know I was meant to live minutes away from her door step. Over the past month, it’s been hard to navigate how to best be there for my extremely brave and positive older sister. I hope I was able to bring some resemblance of “normal” into the past not-so-normal few weeks. Be it holding her hand through the MRI, seeing The Hunger Games in IMAX during a workday afternoon, or going on antiquing adventures together at 8am. It was around a month ago she found out that she has a cerebral occipital AVM. To make a very long medical explanation short, she has extra arteries tangled up behind one of her eyes that is causing a build up of pressure and blood. If left, it would ultimately (at any moment) cause an aneurism. Scary scary stuff. She woke up one morning with extremely blurred vision — at first she thought it must be a sinus infection and wrote it off. After a few doctors visits and then eye doctor appointments, hospital visits, and test after test…. she found her diagnosis. It’s been a whirlwind few weeks and I cannot believe her surgery is in a few days. Jessica will be undergoing brain surgery. BRAIN surgery (sometimes it doesn’t seem real you know?) A “two-part” brain surgery that basically spans from Tuesday through Thursday of next week. Brave does not even begin to describe my sister. There are just no words. She has found comfort in the strength and immensity of God and the multitude of friends and family that have been praying for her (thanks ya’ll). You should read her ongoing blog where she has been reflecting and writing about everything that has been happening. Last week, after she found out more details about the surgery and long process of recovery, she asked if I could do a photoshoot of She and Luca. The next day. Again, there are no words (i’ve literally been speechless) to describe how honored I feel to be able to capture them (and their beautiful love) in this moment. They have so much going on in their lives — I wouldn’t even know where to begin. The love they have for one another has been the greatest example of strength, commitment, and pure love for my own relationship with my husband. Real love. Love in the most pure, honest, and passionate way. Love in this sense is never easy, I mean of course not, your heart and soul is entirely out in the open. But it’s beautiful, and it explodes like fireworks – and you can FEEL it, just by being in the room with them. It’s a gift. Through all this crazy, Jess and I have been talking about how much more we have learned to appreciate the little things and how things that seemed SO big before, don’t seem that important. We’ve talked about taking risks, loving more deeply, and living fully. Appreciating “the normal”. Some of these images are my favorite I’ve ever taken. They speak of love without words and they show the sparkle these two share with one another. Please keep Jessica & Luca in your thoughts and prayers throughout the coming weeks. And sister? we’ll get through this, hand-in-hand. I love you.

Date Night Thursday

Hi again! Wow its already been a week? If you aren’t familiar with the “Date Night Thursday” postings, please check out the first post (and an explanation) here! This weeks feature is from such an adorable couple and in love couple! I’ve known Matt and Audrey for a few years now and I love love love the connection they share with one another. These two are always going on fun adventures together — and I love that they decorated their dining room with framed pictures of images they took while in Europe! When I think of Matt and Audrey, I also think of their love and knowledge of WINE (and cheese, yum!) I was so excited when she e-mailed me about their awesome “Date Night/Date Day” adventures to wine bars, wine tastings, and vineyards! Did you know wine tasting can be actually really cheap? (and it’s SO fun!) I also love that each region has different types of local wines, etc. Some vineyards require reservations, but others can you find out their hours and pop in for a sip (or two… or three), drink responsibly! Thank you Audrey for sending me such an awesome (and yummy) date trip idea and LOVE all the pictures! Cheers!

“We first met when I was in the 6th grade and have been together for 11 1/2 years (I was 16 and matt was 19) and have been married for 7 in May.  We seriously could not be happier with each other and are truly best friends, no one else I would rather be with. For dates, one of the things that Matt and I love to do is go wine tasting, either to vineyards or tastings at local wine bars. It is so wonderful to be able to share in this common interest and learn more about something we love together.  Eventually a crazy dream is working at a vineyard when we retire!  We also love attending wine festivals. Our favorite in NC so far is Raffaldini (check out the link!)–beautiful Italian style wines and the view is amazing!!!   Overall, we especially loved VA b/c of the wonderful wine trails there. A trip that was really special was Holly Grove Vineyard. I had been especially stressed so we decided to take a spur of the moment trip to relax and cheer me up.  We had a picnic on the shore after visiting two vineyards of cheese, fruit, and crackers. The vineyard owner was really nice too and gave us a private tour.  It was also a day trip, whereas the others in VA were more of a long weekend. It’s so hard to pick a favorite! When we vacation we also love finding local wineries wherever we are. Learning about wine is just something we have really enjoyed doing together.  It is also something that we initially became interested in together.  We buy special bottles to pair with celebration dinners  (anniversary, bdays, matching internship, etc).  Matt added that sometimes having a delicious bottle at home (esp paired well) is just as nice as going out–I agree!”
