Connecticut Wedding – Nick & Naomi

My heart. These two. This wedding.

You may remember Nick and Naomi from their beautiful and emotional engagement session upon Max Patch Mountain (which was recently named one of Junebug Weddings Best of 2015!) What many might not know is that Nick and Naomi were all set to get married in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. Throughout their planning they came to realize that they didn’t want to get married anywhere else but the rolling hills and beautiful scenery of where they first met and grew up in Lakeville, CT. I don’t think anyone could have asked for a more perfect day. Every emotion expressed and felt, every detail and handmade element. Nick artfully handcrafted their wedding rings, the florals and herbs were grown throughout the year by Naomi’s Mother, and the arbor they wed under was hand built by both families. Honestly it’s hard to choose my favorite moment as I reflect on the day. Besides all the heartfelt tears and hugs given by everyone in attendance, I especially loved the song that Nick wrote and performed for Naomi during the reception and the releasing of the wish lanterns into the air for the happy couple at the conclusion of the wedding day. A huge thank you to the wonderful Valerie for traveling to Connecticut with me and helping photograph the wedding. I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else there. This wedding day was truly a tribute and reflection of not only the deep love that Nick and Naomi have for each other, but the abundance of love and support of their family and friends. Nick and Naomi, it was such an honor to tell your story through my eyes and heart by knowing your hearts. The world is a better place because your in it, and I’m so excited to see you take on this life together. Love you both!

Photo Field Trip 2015 – California

Even though I’ve had about a month to comprehend the experience, I’m carrying all the stillness of the meaningful conversations and community. And I feel such a peace in that. As much as my time was filled in relationship this year, I also got to explore the rolling hills of Santa Barbara and be wrapped up in the embrace of the California sunsets. I really (really) hate goodbyes, so I’m thankful for the photographs that help to bring me right back in the moment again. I can still feel the belly aching laughter and crunch of the 1am cereal as I type this now. Thank you Fieldtrip 2015 for so so much. xo.

The Ivy Place Wedding – Thomas & Kylie

Thomas and Kylie’s wedding day at The Ivy Place was organic, sweet, and calm. I love the sweet quiet moments and stolen glances these two shared throughout the day. Instead of a first look, Kylie and Thomas stood back-to-back minutes before their ceremony and prayed together in private. All the succulents that were used throughout the day — the hairpiece, boutonniere, cake decor, and wedding favors were simply gorgeous. I love how those small details created such an organic elegance. Oh – and the sunsets at The Ivy Place can’t be beat. I just love everything about the gorgeous venue (and the wonderful people who run it!) A special moment that stood out to me was when they got to Facetime Kylie’s brother who is away on duty in the military. It was a happy and emotional moment for the couple and their families – and I loved that the Ipad got passed around as he got the chance to see everyone at the reception. A huge thank you to Bethany for helping me photograph the day! Kyle and Thomas, it was a pleasure getting to know your sweet love and calm personalities. I wish you so many blessings for your marriage and life together xo – enjoy a glimpse at some of my favorite moments and images from this special day.

First Look With Dad

This moment was so special that it deserves its own post on the blog. The wedding day is usually centered around the bride and groom, and yes, while they are the focus of the special day as they become a married couple, the day also brings SO many emotions to the friends and family in attendance. I’ve spoken to this a lot in the past, but I really love getting to capture the heartfelt moments that unfold naturally. Moments that seem to stop time during the whirlwind of all the beautiful things that happen throughout the wedding day. While Shelby & John chose not to see each other before she walked down the aisle, she really wanted to share a first look moment with her father. As we descended the stairs talking about the first look, Shelby spoke about how as the only daughter, the wedding day held many emotions for her father. I could feel a lump in my throat building thinking about all the meaning behind a father giving his daughter away to her new husband as he walks her up the aisle. I’m not going to lie, I was also a ball of tears at how special this moment was for them. A moment that stopped time on the wedding day that was just for father and daughter, and that makes my heart happy.

Guilty Pleasure Wednesday

Now that I’m back in town for the time being, I can continue with my weekly installment of posting a fun guilty pleasure! There is no question that this posting is a guilty pleasure of mine. I think I get the same amount of excitement reaching into the mailbox and pulling out the latest subscription as I do reading them! What is this weeks posting about? None other than my “collection” of MAGAZINES! Oooo magazine collection. Not only do I have subscriptions to multiple magazines, but (confession….) I have a hard time throwing them out! Looking through my stack, I found magazines from 2007! I’ve tried to remedy this by creating binders filled with my favorite home ideas, organization strategies, recipes, inspirational quotes, wedding inspirations, etc, etc…. but there are some of those magazines that I feel are too good to let go! I hope I’m not the only one out there! The problem is I get new issues monthly, so when I’m in the throws of an extremely hectic schedule, it’s difficult to find the TIME to sit down and READ THEM! So my lovely magazines become beloved stacks (oooo how husband dislikes my “piles”)….all over our apartment lol. As one of my New Years resolutions (de-cluttering my life), I’ve gotten a *bit* better in this department, but still have a bit of work to do (as you can see below). What is my favorite magazine you might ask? Well, just as I have a vast movie collection (and can’t pick out my FAVORITE movie), I have multiple favorite magazines. If it’s a magazine that has to do with the household (aka Real Simple, Better Homes and Gardens, Good Housekeeping), cooking (aka Cooking Light, Everyday Food), crafts (Martha Stewart), exercise (Self), Oprah, etc. Seriously the list goes on. Don’t even get me STARTED on wedding magazines — I’m still tempted at the grocery stores. Hey, it’s for business right?….

Spring Fever

I used to think fall was my absolute FAVORITE season ….. but Spring this year has definitely been such a contender! All of the beautiful trees/flowers in bloom, the soft pitter-patter of rain at night, and the fresh wind that I feel when I step out on the balcony in the early morning.
