Portland Maine Anniversary – Josh & Natalie

This is what three children and seven years of marriage looks like.

One of my greatest joys of being a photographer is the people I get to meet (and befriend) and the relationships and life I get to capture – freezing these moments as a visual legacy and tangible memory. We met up in Portland, Maine on the actual date of their seven year anniversary. As parents, they don’t often spend time away from their three beautiful children, so I wanted the session itself to be an experience of connection. I knew right away as we exchanged hugs that they would instantly feel like old friends, and the session definitely reflects this spirit. We talked about their very beginnings so many years ago – and dove into the biggest dreams and hopes they have for their lives and family. I left our time together feeling simply and beautifully honored; to witness and capture their connection was a heartfelt experience that centered me back to what’s truly important in my own life. My hope is that these images reflect a voice of the beautiful heart and home they’ve created and share together. So so much love to you both xo

Nothing excites me more than capturing raw and real life moments. Telling the story of how life was in that particular time … that particular day. Nicole (who is a dear friend and amazing photographer) and I had been in deep conversations about what’s important in life and just how fleeting each day really is. We spoke of how her youngest was becoming a toddler and she wanted to bottle up the remaining “babyness” in the form of imagery. How the crib that held all three of their girls was no longer going to be needed…all the giggles and tears, the excitement of the early morning, the pink cheeks and wild hair from running outside for hours. I spent a day and a half with the Roberts family and I left feeling inspired and full of immense gratitude. For inviting me into their home not only to photograph their family, but treating me like one of their own.

Hilliard Maternity — The Ivy Place

This past Fall I had the pleasure of photographing something a little different than what you typically see on the blog – a maternity session! I met Steve & Jennifer at one of my very favorite venues (The Ivy Place) to photograph such a special time in their lives before their baby girl arrived! Towards the end of the session the sky opened up to a down-pouring of rain. I love the moodiness that the rain brought to the session and how Jennifer and Steve laughed and went about the session without a care in the world. Congrats on your precious baby girl you two, and thank you for having me capture such an important event in your lives xo Enjoy some of my favorites from our time together xo

Oh my goodness. Capturing such special times in people’s lives will never ever get old. Especially the honor of capturing a dear friend (and fellow photographer’s) family as they welcome baby Colin into the world. I had the hardest time narrowing down images for this post – as their family has so much light, life, and happiness (you’ll see from the favorites I selected below!) Thank you Allison for the honor of photographing your beautiful family and precious newborn baby boy. Oh hi there blog world! Yes, it’s me, I am alive! You will be seeing lots of fun postings in the coming weeks – so much to write about! As you can see, I’m writing from a NEWLY updated blogsite. It might undergo a few minor enhancements, but I love that it’s clean and easy to navigate! Plus did you notice there are now pictures of MYSELF? Yes, I went on the other side of the lens, so you can now see who Alicia White exactly is! If you go to the “alicia” section, there are a few more! Lauren and I had fun capturing each others images for our sites while we were at a photography conference in Las Vegas. I promise, there will be more on this later! For now, I wanted to highlight a really special family. Patrick and I went to college together and were team leaders on a Metanoia retreat my senior year at The University of Dayton. We quickly became friends and spent the majority of senior year attending similar outings and get togethers – looking at college pictures, many of them include both of us! Being close, I was one of the first people to see the engagement ring he later put on Sarah’s hand and attended their wedding in Georgia a year later! After graduation, he moved to Georgia and I bounced around between Ohio, Virginia, and now North Carolina. With the passing time, we stayed connected through facebook and christmas calls, but haven’t actually gotten to catch up/see each other in FOUR years! I recently attended/worked a Jasmine Star workshop (The Fix) in Atlanta and I contacted Sarah and Pat to see if I could spend some time with them, help out with their ADORABLE newborn and 2 year old, and capture some family portraits! Thank you to the both of them for opening up your home to me – especially with a newborn baby! I had so much fun catching up and seeing how our lives have changed in four VERY QUICK years. I am extremely thankful that social media, facebook, and phone calls are so readily available to us – so it was very easy to catch up like we had seen each other a week before! Now that I live in Charlotte, I’m hoping for more trips to Atlanta to spend time with you and your little ones! Hannah-Kate was born at nearly 10 pounds – isn’t she beautiful? Sarah delivered her naturally – now THAT is a champ. Here are just a few of the memories I got to capture at such a special time in their lives. Enjoy!

The Casper Family ~ Family Portraits

Oh there are so many things I could say about this beautiful family & session. I could write a novel about the story of how they became wonderful parents to little Mareto – who they adopted months ago from Ethiopia. Due to how much I could write about how amazing they are, I think the BEST way to see for yourselves is to head on over to Lauren’s blog! Make sure you watch the video on Mareto’s adoption, (oh and make sure you have tissues near!) The family portrait session couldn’t have been any more perfect. Really. It was a beautiful afternoon, gorgeous light, and a quiet park & empty beach front as our background and play space. We had so much fun chatting, playing in the park, and splashing in the ocean! Not only is this family picture perfect, but the pure LOVE that pours out of their hearts and souls is such a beautiful beautiful blessing. I’m not gonna lie, I got into my car after our session was over and started to cry. They have such a respect and Godly LOVE for one another as a couple & family, I felt SO incredibly blessed that I was able to spend the afternoon with them & capture such special memories. I’m constantly reminded by my wonderful clients just how blessed I am to be able to do something with my life I feel so passionately about – to be able to give people the gift of memories and moments to cherish forever. Adopting Mareto was SUCH a process for them (seriously, read her blog), and now they are a family, a precious boy to call their son. Oh – and what’s better? Lauren just announced they are adopting again. My heart bursts with complete joy for them. Here are just a few of my favorites – Enjoy <3

Sneak Peek ~ Casper Family

I can’t wait to write all about this beautiful session. I love what I do for so many reasons,…goodness. It’s sessions like these that really make me feel so incredibly blessed and know in my heart of hearts, that this is what I was meant to do with my life. Being able to spend time with the Casper family tonight was such a gift. There is no other word more perfect to describe it. Such a gift. Thank you for allowing me into your lives for a short time — allowing me to capture the real and beautiful love you share for one another and your newly adopted son (isn’t he HANDSOME?). Thank you for sharing your stories, your easy going attitudes, and the God-inspired marriage (and family) you share with each other. Baby Becca ~ Family

Oh how I’ve loved being able to watch Becca grow throughout the year! Her first birthday is quickly approaching! Not only is this little lady stunning (just look at those eyes!) but she’s super-duper smart! What a beautiful spring afternoon it was while we took these images! Their backyard made a perfect location, that fence is gorgeous! Amy & Adam, you are a beauuutiful and loving family <3 I could speak volumes about them, but I’ll let the images speak for themselves (and surprise! another video!)

Good Morning Friends! Before I jetted off towards the airport to shoot a fabulous wedding in Ohio this weekend, I wanted to pop up a few sneak peeks of this beautiful baby/family I got the pleasure of photographing last night! I’ve been so blessed in getting to watch Becca grow from birth to her very-near 1 year old birthday! Meet Becca! Isn’t she darling? Her parents are FANTASTIC people (and AmAzInG parents) that Eric and I are SO happy to call friends! Actually, Eric was the first one to see little Becca (besides her parents of course) at the hospital an hour after she was born! We have LOVED watching her grow (and boy-oh-boy has she grown) into a bouncing, giggling, babbling, and DROOLING 6 month old! This girl sure can DROOL Her teeth are starting to come in – so she’s def. at the stage where she puts EVERYTHING in her mouth! So hilarious! We babysat her on Friday and I thought it was an awesome opportunity to surprise Amy (her Momma) with some fun pictures while she was at our place! Amy and Adam, you have SUCH a beautiful little girl, I can’t wait to capture more images as she grows! Enjoy the pics of lil’ Becca!

Rob has also been such an amazing fan of mine from the beginning. When he asked if I could photograph his family, I was honored!

Not only was this a chance to create memories of their photo albums, it was also important as the foreign exchange student they were hosting for the year was leaving that upcoming weekend! I was oh-so-very-happy that it worked out that we were able to schedule a time before her departure from the states! This family has so much love for each other, and boy did we all get a kick out of Emma – she has SO much spunk and personality – but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves!
