Winston Salem Lifestyle Engagement – Rob & Megan

Loved spending the afternoon and night with these two – cooking, dancing, and relaxing in their home. Lifestyle sessions have become such a favorite of mine; home is where people feel the most comfortable and I get to know a couple even better as I’m welcome into their daily life and happenings. Rob and Megan started the session with some cocktails and cooked up dinner for the night. We chatted about life, their beautifully styled home (that Rob literally designed and did the projects himself!), and their upcoming wedding. A highlight was when they turned up the music and danced in the kitchen with drinks in hand and food cooking on the stove. These two have such a beautiful connection and are constantly laughing. Time flew by that afternoon capturing their love. We also explored the streets of Winston and headed to the County fair later that night, but due to the ridiculous amounts of images I wanted to share – I decided to highlight the images of Rob and Megan being cozy in their home.

Wormsloe Engagement Savannah Georgia – Will & Karli

One of the first questions I ask couples upon inquiring with me is if they are comfortable cuddling, and this was their exact response: “Yes, we do that naturally anyways. Will would also like to add that we are severe cuddlers!” You’ll see as you look through the images how true those statements are – could they be any sweeter together? We explored the forests and live oak lined streets of Wormsloe Historic Site in Savannah Georgia and as the sun was setting (and gates nearly locked on us!), we made our way to romantic streets of downtown Savannah. They have such a beautiful energy together and I loved getting to know them both as people and as a couple. Can’t wait to be back in Savannah for your wedding next spring!

Fall Update

I sit here working on this blog post with a full and humbled heart. This Fall has been quite a beautiful whirlwind and I wanted to share little pieces of all the sessions and weddings I’ve captured over the last month. Little sneak peeks into the places I’ve adventured and stories/lives I’ve been honored to get to know on a deeper level and document. So much more soon – I hope you enjoy getting lost a bit in some highlights of what my month has been about.

Portland Maine Anniversary – Josh & Natalie

This is what three children and seven years of marriage looks like.

One of my greatest joys of being a photographer is the people I get to meet (and befriend) and the relationships and life I get to capture – freezing these moments as a visual legacy and tangible memory. We met up in Portland, Maine on the actual date of their seven year anniversary. As parents, they don’t often spend time away from their three beautiful children, so I wanted the session itself to be an experience of connection. I knew right away as we exchanged hugs that they would instantly feel like old friends, and the session definitely reflects this spirit. We talked about their very beginnings so many years ago – and dove into the biggest dreams and hopes they have for their lives and family. I left our time together feeling simply and beautifully honored; to witness and capture their connection was a heartfelt experience that centered me back to what’s truly important in my own life. My hope is that these images reflect a voice of the beautiful heart and home they’ve created and share together. So so much love to you both xo

Black Balsam Knob Engagement – Ginny & Vince

Vince and Ginny welcomed me into their home and lives in such a beautiful way. We started at their studio loft apartment; chatting about their proposal story and wedding plans while they baked cookies from scratch with the sound of coffee brewing in the background. Since they live in the mountains and hike together often, we decided to venture out to Black Balsam Knob to capture the incredible 360 views of the mountain ranges. As we rode together along the Blue Ridge Parkway we started to notice the air getting colder and the fog settling in the higher up we climbed. As we hiked to the top of the overlook, the rain started drizzling and the fog was so heavy you could barely see past your outstretched arm. Instead of cowering back to the car – we decided to make an adventure out of it and created magic that day.

Who else is dreaming of spring? Even with my love for all things scarves, sweaters, boots, and warm lattes — I’m excited for the buds on the trees to start blooming and the soft breeze/warm sun that spring brings. This past summer I had such a great time photographing Gabrielle and Matt’s engagement session at Honey Hill Inn in Asheville. As I was going through preparing my “year in review” post (yes, I am officially working on this), I realized I never blogged their images in the whirlwind that was my summer. Not only are these two ridiculously sweet, the images make me SO happy as an official reminder that Spring is right around the corner! So for now, wrap yourself up in a blanket, grab yourself a hot drink, and I hope these cuties bring you some warm fuzzies. So ecstatic to photograph their wedding in California this May! Penland Tree Farm Engagement – Sean & Julie

We met on one of the coldest days this area has seen in awhile – but it was barely noticeable with how sweet and fun we had during the session! There is something so magical about the light when the crisp air meets the glowing winter sunshine. Sean proposed to Julie during the holidays while they were chopping down their Christmas tree – so they thought it would be fun to head back to the farm for their engagement session. Hilliard Maternity — The Ivy Place

This past Fall I had the pleasure of photographing something a little different than what you typically see on the blog – a maternity session! I met Steve & Jennifer at one of my very favorite venues (The Ivy Place) to photograph such a special time in their lives before their baby girl arrived! Towards the end of the session the sky opened up to a down-pouring of rain. I love the moodiness that the rain brought to the session and how Jennifer and Steve laughed and went about the session without a care in the world. Winston Salem Engagement – Alexandra & Matt

As I’ve been mentioning on the facebook business page, you are about to be bombarded with blog posts of awesome couples and families I’ve had the pleasure of photographing over the Fall season. First, I’m starting off with Alexandra and Matt’s engagement session! These two are as snuggly as they get – just wait till you see the images below and you’ll see what I mean. Alex traveled all the way to Winston Salem from Ohio just for the engagement session and enjoyed soaking up all the love and snuggles she could get before she had to travel back. It was fun spending the afternoon chatting with these two about all things psychology and their wedding (both are studying/working as psychologists) — I so enjoyed reminiscing about my previous field of study. At the end of the session my glasses were getting in the way so I placed them on top of my head — little did I know they fell off in the middle of the field/park we were photographing and RUNNING around in …. I can’t thank Alex and Matt enough (STILL) for walking back from our cars in the middle of the night with our cell phone flashlights looking endlessly for my glasses. Thankfully, when I thought all hope was lost, the edge of my cell phone light caught the fog on the glass and I found them as we were headed back to our cars. Not gonna lie, I acted all tough but I would have been scared out of my mind in the pitch black by myself out there lol, so thank you both again for your caring and helpful hearts! The Dairy Barn Engagement – Anne & Kenny

Oh my heart. I remember getting Anne’s contact email about photographing their wedding and I was sighing and swooning at all the beautiful and real life things they had to say about one another (hope you don’t mind me sharing some here Anne!) They spoke of their hearts racing around each other, of smiles whenever the other walks into the room, and how they can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives making each other happy – and facing life and all of its married happenings, together. I literally cannot wait for their wedding day, and I’m so thrilled that the universe has brought you to one another — the world just wouldn’t be the same without your love. Enjoy a glimpse at some of my favorites of our time together capturing their ridiculously sweet and blissful relationship. xo.

Max Patch NC Engagement – Nick & Naomi

Everything about this session and my time with Nick & Naomi could make my heart explode just thinking about it. Never mind that the temps were in the 30s with high winds and overcast skies when we got to the top of Max Patch in North Carolina; none of that mattered. The world seemed to stop spinning and time seemed to stand still as we photographed their love that afternoon with nothing in site but endless mountains and gorgeous skies. Max Patch has to be one of my very favorite places, and you’ll soon see why. We spent the session (and yummy Indian dinner afterward) really getting to know one another – and as I drove home that night tears of happiness fell as I thought about how special our time was together and how much I appreciated our deep conversations about all things love, happiness, and the meaning of life. I’ve mentioned before that engagement sessions are a wonderful time for us to get to know one another, but more than that, I try and create an experience for the couples I’m photographing that bring them together with lots of laughter and quiet intimacy. Everything just clicked, and for that, I’m so humbled and grateful for the time we spent together on top of the world that afternoon. Thank you Naomi and Nick for your open hearts and beautiful souls. I will forever cherish this session and our time together and am so looking forward to your wedding next year. My original flagging of images resulted in over 100 favorites – so I spent some time reflecting on the conversations we shared to help aid in choosing images that I felt best show their hearts.

Latta Plantation Engagement – Paul & Kirstin

Be prepared to see LOTS of posts coming to the blog in the next few weeks. This time of year for photographers is pretty crazy (of course in the best way possible); but I’m ready to sit down with pots and pots of coffee for the rest of the “fall/winter” season and edit my heart out! If you happen to bump into a photographer in the next few weeks, make sure you give them a hug. This time of year is like tax season for accountants! I have so many heartfelt and happy images/stories to show you, I literally can’t wait. Make sure your a “facebook fan” as I am always updating little sneak peeks of favorite images as I edit. Sometimes I just can’t wait to show the world! Kirstin and Paul met up with me at Latta Plantation in Huntersville as it’s a favorite spot of theirs to hike and explore in the area. We hiked for a couple of miles stopping to take pictures along the way. Have you ever seen a more cuddly couple? I’m off to shoot my final wedding of this season .. feeling so humbled and happy as I go through all of these images I have lined up reflecting on what heartfelt moments and seriously wonderful people I get to know and photograph. The Ivy Place Elopement – Will & McCamy

It’s sessions such as this that remind me how really special it is that I get to take part and capture such important memories and intimate moments in people’s lives. McCamy & Will have been together for so many years they decided to have elope under a gorgeous tree on the hillside of The Ivy Place. I am completely smitten with how beautiful the property is and could seriously photograph there every week and be happy. There is something so magical about the summer nights right before the air turns crisp into Fall. Despite the heat & humidity these type of nights bring, nothing was getting in the way of their bliss, and I think the images speak exactly to that. I don’t take what I do lightly, and I feel so honored to be chosen to witness and photograph such a pivotal time in their lives. Welcome to the journey of married life you two – I loved being part of the first day of the rest of your lives together as husband and wife. Caroline & Jason – Latta Plantation Engagement

We met for the engagement session at Latta Plantation park in Huntersville on what felt like the hottest day of the summer. The temperature sure didn’t stop these two from snuggling the whole time though! I had the best time getting to know these two and we had so many laughs about how much Caroline LOVED to hug & snuggle. If I didn’t keep us moving around the whole time, I think she would have been perfectly content to stand in one spot just enjoying being cuddled by her man! But that’s what it’s all about – photographing couples who can just relax (be themselves!), laugh, and snuggle up to the person that makes their heart happy. I’ve got a lot of posts coming in the next few weeks (you know the Fall wedding season is starting up when I’ve lots lined up to post!), but I wanted to share a few favorites from our time together! So excited that I get to go BACK to High Hampton Inn for their wedding this November! Love every chance I get to photograph in nature/mountains! xo
